Nexus Mods, the largest community-driven repository for PC gaming modifications, has announced that any new mod uploaded after the upcoming deadline must explicitly state whether artificial intelligence was used in its creation.
Authors will be required to select an AI tag—either “AI‑generated” or “AI‑assisted”—and, for the latter, provide a public explanation detailing how and where AI tools contributed to the mod. The platform emphasizes that it will not ban AI‑generated mods, arguing that AI is already embedded in many stages of mod development, from script autocompletion to texture generation, making a clear boundary difficult to define.
The changes also include tighter controls on the “Recently Added” section, limiting how many mods from a single author appear at once and imposing stricter upload rules for new accounts. Additionally, Nexus Mods will hide AI‑generated content from game pages and the homepage, with plans to filter it from search results as well. Authors have a 60‑day grace period, ending on January 2, after which the disclosure rules will be enforced.
These measures aim to increase transparency for Vietnamese gamers and modders, ensuring that the community can trust the origins of the assets they download while still encouraging creative use of AI tools. By making AI usage visible, Nexus Mods hopes to foster a more responsible ecosystem for both creators and players.
